Apple, could be planning on adding iCar to it’s portfolio of “i”s if the reports we are hearing is anything to go by (which folks are insisting is pretty concrete).
So the Cupertino power tech company might be planning to start it’s own line of cars but we hear it’s pretty far-off still, say sometime around 2020 (that’s five 5 years from now).
Apple’s iCar was recently in the news following stories that Apple is entangled in a lawsuit over ‘stealing’ employees from an electric car manufacturer called A123.
The gist is that A123 is accusing the Cupertino based tech giant of unlawfully recruiting senior engineers to build its own battery division over at Cupertino. Battery experts from LG, Samsung, Panasonic and Toshiba were also allegedly contacted by Apple (serious business). That’s adding to the 50 Tesla employees currently on Apple’s pay roll all working on the iCar, including former Mercedes-Benz R&D boss Johann Jungwirth.
What we don’t know at the moment is if Apple actually go through with the idea of creating cars. The five years stretch is something that can make one decide other-wise, so will the Cupertion based giant have a change of heart?
Well, it certainly has the money to do it. Last quarter it posted a world record profit of $18 billion, so we doubt money is an issue. Plus with Apple already having its CarPlay platform in many vehicles, Cupertino definitely has the right connections to get going.
